Welcome to Eindhoven

Eindhoven is the fourth biggest city in the Netherlands with some 200,000 inhabitants.. The city is well known for Philips (A well known international electronic company) and PSV football club. With its friendly environment and open minded people, Eindhoven is one of the destination cities for students who want to expand their knowledge and depth, especially in technical studies. The city also has many culture differences which come from all over the world, which makes English as the second official language. Although Dutch as the mother tounge language is still mostly used, most Dutch speak fluent English. Eindhoven is located in the south of Netherlands which makes the city near to the German and Belgium border.

Culture

The Cultural Student Center Scala is located at Kanaalstraat 4 in Eindhoven. Many films, dances, theaters and music groups are associated with Scala. The Studium Generale office (SG) is associated with the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. The Studium Generale organizes a very extensive program together with students: lectures, interviews, discussions, expositions and activities such as music, theater, literature and film. Fontys students also have access to the activities of Studium Generale.

Sports

Students of Fontys andTU/e (Technical University of Eindhoven) can use the facilities of the TU/e Sportcentrum (Sports Center) on the campus of TU/e . You will need a sport card which costs you around 60 euro per year, with this sport card you can make you use almost all the facilities of the Sportcentrum. You can find more information in the brochure you receive in the information package at the beginning of the academic year. The payment slip for the sport card is included there. Transportation
With excellent transportation infrastructure in Eindhoven, it is not going to be a difficult if you want to go from Eindhoven to other cities in the Netherlands, or in Europe. Eindhoven has extensive bus and train connections, it even has its own airport, serving low-cost airlines, such as the Ryanair. Many websites give good information about the routes and the timetables of the trains and the busses. Normally the public transports have their own website that point out the timetable and the planner. There are two important public transportation websites:
www.ns.nl (all information about local train and international train)
www.9292ov.nl (all information about bus routes in Netherlands including the train time table)
